"I Heart Rylan"

Just a few weeks ago, eight year old Rylan (a student at Stewart Creek Elementary), was running the bases and playing at recess. Recently, all that changed when he was diagnosed with Restrictive Cardiomyopathy. Rylan needs a heart transplant. This rare heart condition affects about 1 in a million children and requires extensive medical care. Rylan truly is one in a million and needs our help.

Bookfair Volunteers The Book Fair is coming to SCE the week of October 3rd - 7th. The library is in need of volunteers to help with this rewarding and fun time for the kids. Bookfair shifts are available Monday through Friday, October 3 - 7. Three volunteers are needed for each shift.

Morning Shift 8-11:30a.m. or 1-3:30p.m.
Afternoon Shift 1-3:30p.m
Set-Up: Friday, 9/30/11 - 9 a.m. - Noon (need 5 volunteers)
Pack-Up: Friday, 10/7/11 - 1-3:30p.m. (need 5 volunteers)

SCE Students and Teachers are in need of volunteers to assist staff in morning and afternoon car rider duty as well as lunches. The purpose is to allow those teachers who have duty to work with small groups of students during that time. We are trying our best to make the most out of the instructional day at SCE. Giving our teachers more time to work with students can increase the academic progress of many! We need 2 volunteers each school day during the following times:

Lunchroom Volunteers

Kindergarten Lunch Volunteers 12:45-1:15 p.m.
1st Grade Lunch Volunteers 12:15-12:45 p.m.
2nd Grade Lunch Volunteers 10:35-11:05 a.m.
3rd Grade Lunch Volunteers 11:45-12:15 p.m.
4th Grade Lunch Volunteers 11:10-11:40 a.m.

Car Rider Volunteers

Morning Car Rider Volunteers 7:45-8:30 a.m. / Afternoon Car Rider Volunteers 3:15-4:00 p.m.

Afternoon Library Volunteers 2:30-3:30 p.m. (you do not have to commit to every week (ie: Wednesday; every other week - or whatever works for you)

Right now we would like to schedule volunteers for the month of October. Please look at your calendar and see which day (or days) in the month of October you would be willing to help out in the areas listed here. Each month we will be sending out volunteer requests, so if October is not a good time for you, then there will be other opportunities.

Spirit Shack
7:50-8:25 a.m. during the week of September 12-16

At Stewart Creek Elementary, our PTO has a Cub Shack available for students to shop for miscellaneous novelty items each Wednesday morning. The students love shopping at the Cub Shack! Periodically throughout the school year, we open our Cub Shack for the entire week from 7:50-8:25 a.m. for special shopping opportunities. During the week of September 12-16, the Cub Shack will be transformed into a SPIRIT SHACK. Many "spirit items" will be available for your child to purchase. Items range from $0.25 to $5.00.

"Meet the Teacher" Night at SCE
Thursday, August 18 from 5 - 7 p.m.

Volunteers will meet you in the foyer and tell you who your teacher will be. Feel free to bring your school supplies if you have them ready. For those families who purchased school supplies through the PTO, the items will be waiting for you in your classroom. At "Meet the Teacher", you will visit your new classroom and meet your wonderful teacher. In the classroom, there will be a packet of forms for each family to take home and complete. You may return the papers on the first day of school.

Additionally, at "Meet the Teacher" you will have an opportunity to join our PTO, purchase your 2011-12 SCE Yearbook, and purchase SCE t-shirts.

Teacher Appreciation Cookie Walk

Friday, December 3rd

The SCE PTO is hosting it's annual Teacher Cookie Walk to treat our teachers with sweet treats provided by our SCE families. Each teacher will be provided with a container to take home an assortment of goodies to share with their families.

All families are asked to send at least one dozen homemade cookies in a disposable container to Room 101 on Friday morning.

**If you are able to volunteer your time to help us decorate for this event, please come to Room 101 anytime during the day on Thursday. On Friday morning beginning at 8:30, we would appreciate any volunteers who are able to help set out cookies .

Our 2nd Annual SCE Family Fun Run/Walk

is a fun and fit activity for all SCE students, families, and friends.

Participate in the 5K/2.5K Fun Run (walk or run) - no fee to participate!
Enjoy the activities in our Fun Field (face painting, Rock Climbing, Bungee Sling Shot, Dunking Booth, Bouncy Houses, and much more!!)
Visit your child's teacher at Open House
Feed the family (hotdogs, nachos, popcorn, sweets and plenty of cold drinks)
Activity and Food Tickets available for purchase the day of the event (cash, check, credit card)
Participate in the raffle at the event (must be present to win)

Look for the Family Fun Run packet that was sent home with students this week at SCE for Fun Run details. Collect donations for your child's Sponsor Donation Envelope. All donation envelopes are due Friday, September 3. Students who collect $20 or more in sponsorship will receive a complimentary Fun Run t-shirt. Prizes awarded for students who raise the most sponsor donations for SCE.

All proceeds benefit the students of Stewart Creek Elementary.

Please save May 8th on your calendar for the new Running of the Bears. The race will start at 8:30 a.m. from downtown Montgomery and has something for everyone, so plan on showing up early. It will include a competitive 5 mile run along with a 2 mile fun run/walk. Also, at this time, there are plans for face painting by the Bonnie Belles, fire truck display by the local fire department, along with the historic downtown shops.

Coach Vaughn is looking for Field Day volunteers for Friday, April 30th. There will be twenty stations for the students to participate in during their Field Day time. Volunteers are needed at each station. It's going to be a lot of fun! Gumbo YaYa Auction Planning Meeting - Tuesday, November 17 @ 8:30 a.m.

You've probably started hearing something about our First Annual Gumbo YaYa event, our new big spring fundraiser at SCE. It will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 in the Bluebonnet Event Center at the KOA in Montgomery. Gumbo YaYa is a kid-free night that includes dinner, dancing, a raffle, and a live & silent auction. More details will follow as the event gets closer, but it’s time to get started early making plans in order to make Gumbo YaYa a huge success.

Gumbo YaYa is also one of the largest volunteer opportunities at SCE, and there are a variety of ways our families can help to make it happen. Our first important planning meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 17 at 8:30 in the PTO room. The purpose of this meeting is to make plans for the items that will be available in our raffle and live & silent auctions. It's time to get creative and decide what YOU would like to see in our auction this year! We're excited to hear your new ideas.
